Unofficial Open Studio Kyoto

Unofficial Open Studio Kyoto is an annual event in which Ryo Shinagawa opens his studio—where he creates his art on a daily basis—to the public.
The event aims to open up the creative space where his works are born and to create a venue for direct dialogue between the artist and his contemporaries; it is one of the ways he explores the possibilities of his work as a painter.

The inspiration for this initiative comes from the open studios he encountered while studying abroad as a student. The experience of being exposed to the creative environment and engaging in dialogue with artists provided valuable insights for his own artistic practice. Kyoto boasts a rich culture and outstanding works of art, and in recent years, its art fairs and exhibitions have flourished. I hope that by adding opportunities to experience the creative process firsthand, new relationships will emerge between artists, viewers, and the local community, helping Kyoto become an even richer breeding ground for art and culture.
